As an architect, one of our responsibilities is to look for established artifacts and protocols and determine if they have a good fit with the needs of our client (in this case, ministries of health). I found the OpenHIE as an accessible open community (more than just technology) where I can find knowledge and resources that would've been otherwise inaccessible. OpenHIE, as I found out, is a collection of wise men and women with the scars to show when it comes to eHealth implementation. The openness of the OpenHIE community is a tremendous resource for learning.

OpenHIE has made it easier to think about meaningful exchange of health information holistically, accommodating the complexities of our health systems that comprise of digital health investments made over the years both vertically and horizontally. The real value however is the real people in the OpenHIE Community who have and continue to breathe life into the OpenHIE architectural blueprint, tools, processes, methods and all other artifacts aimed at improving healthcare outcomes, patient experience and affordable healthcare.
